How to Make Your Lace Wig Last 6+ Months

Investing in a quality lace wig is just the first step. The real magic happens when you take care of it properly. At Rich Girls Hair Collection, we've seen clients get 6 months or more out of a single wig — and it still looks brand new. Here's the care routine our Miami stylists swear by.
1. Wash with Care
Never use regular shampoo on your wig. Sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo is a must. Wash your wig every 7-10 wears, or when product buildup becomes noticeable. Always use lukewarm water — hot water can damage the lace and loosen the hair knots.
2. Condition and Deep Condition
After every wash, apply a lightweight conditioner from mid-shaft to ends. Once a month, treat your wig to a deep conditioning mask. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes under a plastic cap. This keeps the hair soft, shiny, and tangle-free.
3. Store It Properly
When you're not wearing your wig, store it on a wig stand or mannequin head. This helps maintain the shape and prevents tangling. Never toss your wig into a drawer or bag — that's the fastest way to ruin it.
4. Protect the Lace
The lace is the most delicate part of your wig. When removing your wig, use a gentle adhesive remover — never pull or tug. Clean any adhesive residue off the lace after each removal. Handle the lace with clean hands to avoid oil buildup.
5. Minimize Heat Styling
While our 100% human hair wigs can handle heat, less is more. Always use a heat protectant spray, and try to keep your flat iron or curling wand below 350°F. Better yet, try heatless styling methods like flexi-rods or braiding overnight for gorgeous curls without the damage.
